What´s that skull all about anyways?

On 8 November, 2011

Some of you might have wondered, what our skull logo means, and what IF THE KIDS Records is all about, apart form releasing global electronic music, that is difficult to categorize, put in a box, compare to anything else or predict what´s going to happen next.

To be honest, this label is about a little more than just music. The leaves on our header above, for example, have a special meaning too (whoever has a clue what they are and where they come from, will get a special vynil pressing of our last release).

So, let´s start with the skull and it´s meaning. Apart from being a very popular symbol used in logos and posters of many punk bands (which are sort of our roots) and on pirate flags (which we admire), its mystical and symbolical meaning dates back a big bunch of several hundreds and thousands of years.

“Mostly understood as a symbol of warning, the skull was often used by ancient cultures to ward off any type of evil influence or illness. It’s philosophically viewed as the seat of intelligence, spirit and the spark of human life. Interestingly, the skull is also the remnant of the body that is the least resistant to decay – another sign of its strength as a symbol. Many primitive cultures believed wearing skulls would insure protection and well-being.”

And here is an excerpt from a wonderful article about crystal skulls from Mexico, Central and South America.

The Mystical Qualities of Crystal Skulls

“Skulls have been one of the most powerful objects of symbolism in human history, all over the world. Several “perfect” crystal Skulls have been found in parts of Mexico, Central and South America. During early expeditions, archaeologists were told by locals that the skulls possessed magical powers and healing properties.[...]

Crystal skulls are credited by believers for having the ability to awaken or raise human consciousness to a higher level.[...] And yet another group of psychics believe that these skulls have the capability to enable us to look into the past, present and future.[...]

According to them, ancients used the skulls to predict the future, to control the weather, as healing devices, as oracles to receive cosmic wisdom, as receivers of universal knowledge, and as a tool meant for future use to gain divine knowledge.”
